INDIANAPOLIS
– Manufacturing and CNC machining will be well represented at this weekend’s
Indianapolis 500, the largest single day sporting event in the world, with five
cars representing two brands of CNC machines; Hurco and Takumi USA.
The Hurco logo will be on IndyCar partner Ed
Carpenter Racing (ECR) cars #20 (Ed Carpenter), #21 (Spencer Pigot), and #63
(Ed Jones). The Hurco logo is placed on the center spine of the ECR racing
cars.
For the sixth time in seven years, ECR will
have a front row starting position for the Indianapolis 500; but for the first
time, the team will hold two of the three positions. ECR will also fill out
three of the top four starting positions in Sunday’s 500-mile classic. Ed
Carpenter, Spencer Pigot and Ed Jones qualified second, third and fourth,
respectively.
Ed Carpenter is the only owner/driver in the
series and has already placed his name solidly in the history of the
Indianapolis 500 as a three-time Indy 500 Pole Winner. Ed Carpenter Racing
(ECR) began its partnership with Hurco in 2014 to gain an edge in the
competitive world of IndyCar. Two Hurco CNC machines grind out parts for the
motorsports team located in Indianapolis, Indiana. In return, the Hurco logo is
displayed on the team’s cars and uniforms in addition to special access for
customer events during the IndyCar season.
The Takumi USA logo will be on IndyCar partner
Dreyer and Reinbold Racing (DRR) cars #24 (Sage Karam) and #48 (J.R.
Hildebrand). The bright orange Takumi logo is located on the side of each car
near the rear tire. DRR uses the Takumi H10 3-axis CNC machine and the U600
5-axis CNC machine to make parts for their Indy cars.
Karam,
a native of Nazareth, Indiana and second youngest driver ever to complete 200
laps in his 2014 debut race, Karam will make his fifth appearance at the Indy
500 with DRR. Karam was the fastest qualifier among the six vying for the final
three spots in the race.
A
new member of the DRR racing team, 2019 marks Hildebrand’s second appearance at
the Indy 500 with DRR and ninth overall. Hildebrand, the 2009 Indy Lights
champion, will start on the outside of row 9 on Sunday.
Hucro
Companies is excited to promote machining and show the younger generation how
innovative and tech-oriented manufacturing really is with their Indianapolis
500 partnerships.
